Brief Guide to the Kingdom

PLEASE NOTE: This article contains mild comic spoilers.

What is the Kingdom?

The Kingdom is a community based in an old high school. Ezekiel is the leader of the group, with Richard his right-hand man and security chief. The community is secured by school buses and a metal fence around the perimetre. The residents live inside the school in the winter, and in summer they live in tents in the grounds

The Kingdom is made up of a wide variety of people (like Alexandria and Hilltop). There is no named doctor in the comic. Those protecting the community use horses, armour and spears. No-one can enter the Kingdom without an escort from the armoured riders - not even allies, such as Jesus. No cars are allowed inside the walls.

Ezekiel

Ezekiel - known as King Ezekiel - is the leader of the Kingdom. He's an African-American man aged around 55-60, with long white dreadlocks and a white beard. He carries a staff which houses a sword. A former zoo keeper, he dabbled in community theatre where he learned his "kingly" ways which he believes give his people a sense of security.

He did not have much of a family life before the turn, claiming his father was dead to him a long time ago and his mother wasn't very maternal. He also says he didn't have much luck with women.

He greets visitors in the school's theatre, where he sits in a throne on a raised platform on the stage. Ezekiel thinks Gregory (from Hilltop) is a coward, and Negan is a tyrant but he has been waiting for the right time to make a move against Negan.

Flamboyant and charming, he is a benevolent leader and genuinely only wants what is best for his people. He can be sensitive and emotional when it comes to those closest to him.

Shiva

Shiva is Negan's tiger and his constant companion, that he keeps on a chain lead. She hates violence, and will react to it. However, she will attack the undead and suffers no ill effects from eating the bodies of walkers.

Ezekiel was her keeper at the zoo when Shiva was born. At some point in her life she fell out of her exhibit into the moat surrounding it, injuring her leg. Ezekiel tied his shirt around her leg, saving her life, but not before she clawed his stomach. This created a bond between them and after the turn Ezekiel made it to the zoo where he found Shiva starving, one of the last animals still trapped. Ezekiel refers to her as the only thing in life he loves.
