Another twig snapped, this one louder than the last one. That second sound was all it took for the hunter to know it wasn’t a deer out there in front of them. What it sounded like was a pair of boots trampling the underbrush.
Last time he checked Bambi never wore boots.

He wasn’t quite sure how they’d landed up like this, but the once-full bottle of Jack lying empty on the floor of Carol’s cell probably had something to do it…not that he was complaining. One minute they’d been passing the drink back and forth and the next thing he knew her tongue was in his mouth and her hands were tearing the clothes off his back.
Good Lord, it was hot. Daryl paused from nailing a support beam into the rafter he was working on to wipe a bead of sweat away from his eye. He’d always thought the Georgian heat waves were insufferable but those days seemed like a happy memory compared to the sweltering temperatures he’d experienced since moving to Australia.

Daryl stared at the cut before him, transfixed by the ruby jewel that had appeared there. There was no way Carol could possibly know what effect blood had on him. If she had even the slightest notion he knew she would never have offered herself so casually.
