Carol Sommers, finally out from under Ed's shadow, moves herself and her daughter, Sophia, across the country to a sleepy beachside town. There she meets quiet tattoo artist Daryl Dixon, who works in his brothers tattoo shop. Carol has, like the Phoenix of legend, risen from the ashes. She's got a new lease on life and she knows what she wants.
Carol has always had a talent for singing. When a new club opens in town she puts her talent to work. Daryl, recently home from the war, comes to club to drown his sorrows. When he meets Carol he decides to swim, not sink.
Daryl and Carol celebrate an anniversary, after a fashion.
