It had always been Daryl and Merle against the world, for as long as either of them could remember, and there was no way in hell Merle was letting that stop now. It was all just a big misunderstanding. (Caryl AU with a heavy dose of Merle.)

In the middle of the room is a squat artificial evergreen tree sitting on the table they use for council meetings, dwarfed by the bags and boxes under its branches. There's a paper chain draped over it, with bits of old tinsel clinging to the branches. It’s beautiful.
